This evening, Dave decided to adopt one of his most famous napping poses, one which does not even have an official name. It is designed to offer an unbeatable level of comfort to the napper, and it usually succeeds.

Oblivious
Below you can see an image of one of Dave's recent bouts of obliviousness. For a cat that is so suspicious of potential threats, this is quite a vulnerable position.

A Cat for All Seasons
Dave often employs the strategy below when he wants to feel cool, temperature-wise. (He always feels cool personality-wise, as you likely know.) Thus, the sight below is usually one for the summer. However, Dave will occasionally unleash this strategy in the winter months as well.
There are a number of reasons for this. First of all, Dave's home is climate-controlled, so even in the winter it is not particularly cold. But second of all, and more importantly, Dave doesn't want to get out of practice. He knows how important this strategy is to him every summer, and he won't have any time to practice come July. A failure then could be nothing short of devastating, so he keeps himself in good shape year-round to avoid such a failure.
Here is the strategy from another angle.

Ideal Warmth and Comfort
Here you can see Dave on what might be his favorite napping location of all. The opportunity to use this napping location only presents itself occasionally, but Dave is always ready to capitalize for a great nap. A lesser cat might not even notice the opportunity until too late.
What you see here is a napping location that already has a similar temperature to Dave's body, and is also extremely comfortable. There is one other drawback though - the object is not stationary. This may be what caused Dave's concerned facial expression in this photo.

Dave Wishes you a Happy Thanksgiving
Dave encourages you to enjoy this day of Thanksgiving. He is grateful for all the napping opportunities he has had this year (such as this, this, and this). He is also grateful for all the food he has been able to eat this year.
He knows that a lot of cats, much like his younger self, don't always have the same napping and feeding opportunities that Dave now has on a daily basis. Below you will find an example of the type of napping strategy that Dave plans to employ today.

Dave in a funny position
This is not a typical napping position for Dave. It is really unlike any other napping strategy he has used. But there is one thing this strategy has in common with Dave's normal strategies: it looks very comfortable. It looks like the kind of napping strategy that would be effective in the winter months, so perhaps Dave is simply trying to prepare strategies well in advance this year. After all, last winter was quite severe, and as good as his improvisational skills are, he likes to be as prepared as possible.

Even in the summer
Dave has many developed many strategies over the years to help him cope with the dreadful heat in the summer months. Dave's colleague LeiLei has even adopted one of these strategies. But even so, Dave is not continuously overheated during the summer. Some days, such as on those inexplicable days when a large and loud machine blows cold air onto Dave, he likes to lay under a blanket.

The Summer Months
When the weather gets warmer in the summer, Dave employs a set of napping strategies that allows him to remain cool. When he does this, he is a pretty cool cat in more ways than one. In other words, he is cool both temperature-wise and personality-wise.

A Cool Strategy
Dave likes to employ this strategy when the weather is warm. He has only ever lived in terrible climates that have extreme summers with unacceptable humidity, and he has to do things like this to keep cool. He isn't always happy about it, but his flexibility allows him to thrive even in the most trying times.

Guest Appearance: LeiLei, Volume II
LeiLei generally leans toward tidiness, but even she adopts some more Dave-like antics at times. Especially in the warmer months, you might find LeiLei in a position like this. Perhaps if she got to spend time with Dave, LeiLei could learn other great napping strategies, but she is clearly doing alright on her own.

Action Jackson
While Dave is known to spend a lot of his time investigating things around his home, Jack can also be active in this area. Sometimes he investigates invading bugs, or drafts of wind, or the blinds on the window. Other times he investigates Dave and whatever shenanigans he is pulling off at the moment. Other times still, Jack kicks Dave off of a napping spot so Jack can investigate its softness. You can see the aftermath of one such occurrence here.
When he is in this mode, Jack thinks of himself as Action Jackson.

If this isn't comfort, I don't know what is
This is one of Dave's more intrusive napping strategies. Some cats can nap in ways that make them almost invisible to all but the most keen cat observers. On the other hand, Dave, while he thinks he retains some of the stealthiness that allowed him to thrive so well on the mean streets of Iowa, now frequently employs napping strategies like the one seen here. Again, comfort is priority number one for Dave. What reason would there be to live indoors if you can't nap however you please? That's what Dave thinks.
