Dave's Favorite Military Alert System

Dave, a worldly cat, has thoughts on many subjects, ranging from the most lighthearted to the most serious. One serious topic that Dave ponders with great concern is military readiness. This is a serious matter for Dave not only because of the potential ramifications of global conflict, but also because Dave cares very much about the safety of his own home. He considers it his gravest responsibility to protect his home from any potential threats.

His preferred system of military alertness is DAFECON.

What Has Dave Gotten Himself Into Here?

Dave woke up from a nap today in quite a state, and he had no idea how he found himself thus.

Dave could make neither heads nor tails of his situation, so he thought it best to arise from his slumber and go eat some food.

Here you can see Dave and Jack performing their best Holmes/Watson impersonation. Something suspicious lurks on the other side of the kitchen, and they are scoping out the area before making their move on it. 

A Cat for All Seasons

Dave often employs the strategy below when he wants to feel cool, temperature-wise. (He always feels cool personality-wise, as you likely know.) Thus, the sight below is usually one for the summer. However, Dave will occasionally unleash this strategy in the winter months as well. 

There are a number of reasons for this. First of all, Dave's home is climate-controlled, so even in the winter it is not particularly cold. But second of all, and more importantly, Dave doesn't want to get out of practice. He knows how important this strategy is to him every summer, and he won't have any time to practice come July. A failure then could be nothing short of devastating, so he keeps himself in good shape year-round to avoid such a failure.

A Truly Disturbing Sight

This morning, Dave witnessed a scenario he hoped to never face again. It was the sort of scenario that he once faced with unfortunate frequency when he was an alley cat on the mean streets of Iowa - a lack of food where there should have been food. 

Dave's concern was quickly alleviated, however, when the food containers in Dave's home were filled to the brim with a bounty of fresh food. This pleased Dave greatly, and once again allowed Dave to relegate his hungry mode to the recesses of his mind, where it will lurk until the day it is needed. 

Today is a Good Day

Dave has announced that today will be a day for napping near the window, even though he is slightly too large for the platform you see him in below.

Dave is glad to see that LeiLei performs it to perfection. He feels like Mozart would probably feel after hearing the London Symphony Orchestra play his compositions.

Loafin' by the Window

Dave decided to enjoy the afternoon loafing on his perch next to the window. The natural light is pleasurable to Dave, especially in the winter, when such light is scarce and does not reach far into his home.

It is no secret that Dave and Jack enjoy looking out windows (see here, here and here). The reasons for this are obvious. They live indoors, and enjoy the opportunity to look outside. 

But it appears that LeiLei also enjoys this activity, establishing her cat bona fides yet again. It turns out that The Dafe and Action Jackson are not the only investigators in the family.
