Goofballery

While Jack's behaviors lean towards the tidy, that does not mean that he is incapable of being a major goofball. Typically, any goofballing in the house is handled by Dave

Not today, as Jack pretends that he is falling off of his napping perch.

Nap Duels, Volume V

A rug can make a great napping location - so great in fact that Dave and Jack will occasionally use it simultaneously. Here you can see Dave performing a freestyle maneuver while Jack conducts himself like a proper cat.

Squirreling Around

Dave is a rambunctious fellow. Sometimes he gets antsy and starts running all around the place with reckless abandon. He will knock things over, on purpose or obliviously. He will leap onto the top of the couch only to scurry back to the floor and on to the next room. He jives from place to place like he doesn't know where he wants to go.

Sometimes he will lay on the floor of the kitchen like you can see here, and squirrel around. He will reach out to grab passersby, open cabinets, or ask for a belly rub. You have to be ready for this type of thing if you are going to live in Dave's residence.

Guest Appearance: LeiLei, Volume V

Dave is not the only cat in the world with a penchant for goofballery. LeiLei, one of Dave's colleagues who lives in a different home, also displays some goofball tendencies from time to time. In this case you can see LeiLei either pretending to not know which way is up or down, or actually getting confused about which way is up or down.

Probably pretending.

Guest Appearance: The Fluff, Volume III

The Fluff does not devote nearly as much time to nonsense as some of his colleagues do, but that doesn't mean his life is completely devoid of goofy behavior. He is certainly not against mewling loudly at 4am for no particular reason, or rolling around in the dirt outside, or trying to eat grass, or, as you can see here, crawling under a blanket that is meant for a person rather than a cat.

Fluffy is well-rounded like that. He takes life seriously, but not too seriously.

Guest Appearance: Goldie, Volume II

Goldie is generally a pretty reserved cat, but like his colleagues Dave and Blue, he does have some propensity for goofy behavior. With even more flexibility than Dave has, Goldie can get himself into some pretty weird positions. Sometimes he wants to stretch, but sometimes he just needs more variety in life. Unlike Dave and most of the other cool cats to appear on The Dafe, Goldie lives in a one-cat residence, so he has to entertain himself a lot of the time.

Guest Appearance: Blue, Volume II

You might remember that Blue shares with Dave a great fondness for investigations, but Blue has at least one other thing in common with Dave. They share a propensity to be major goofballs with no warning. Blue takes a much less serious approach to life than Dave. He is not too embarrassed to roll around all over the floor, or run in circles in the backyard, or try to bite a stream of water coming from a hose. He just enjoys life. Perhaps this is because he has lived a more sheltered life than Dave has, but whatever the reason, Blue has a good time and isn't afraid to let you know about it.

Dave the rascal, Volume II

Dave can be a rascal sometimes. In the photograph below, you can see Dave messing the rug all up in the bedroom, while Jack sits nearby and judges. Who knows what Dave was going for here. He could have been wearing his detective hat and investigating something. Maybe he thought he saw something under the rug. Maybe he was looking all over for something pertinent to an investigation. But in reality, it is a fool's errand to subscribe any real motive for Dave in these situations. He is just a huge goofball sometimes.

It's understandable though. Dave spent his youth growing up on his own on the mean streets of Iowa. With that came hardship, but also FREEDOM. Dave has better access to food and soft napping spots now, but he doesn't have as many things to do. That can lead to situations like you see below.

Some of the stuff Jack has to deal with

Living under the same roof as The Dafe isn't always easy. He isn't really aware of the concept of personal space, he assumes all of the food in the house is for him, and he sees every space in the house as a potential napping location for himself. Generally speaking, Dave just tends to be a major goofball. Below, you can see one such instance of Dave being a goofball. No one has any idea what this was meant to accomplish, most of all Jack. Perhaps he was just trying to warm up Jack's tail for him, but it's more likely the even Dave doesn't know what he was doing.
