Dave has a level of persistence unmatched by most other cats. Really the only other worldly thing that can compete with Dave's persistence is the Java updater. Day after day, the goal is the same.
It is Dave's remarkable persistence that allows him to develop great napping techniques such as this one. It's not always easy, but Dave can work through times of frustration, because he knows his goal is comfort, and he won't stop until he achieves it.

Dave's upcoming trip
Ever since Dave's cat carrier was removed from the closet about a month ago, Dave has been planning a trip to Davos, his favorite skiing destination.
.@davos Do you have any special ski slopes for cats? I would like to visit your city and ski there.
— The Dafe (@DafeTheCat) April 9, 2014
Dave is a very astute traveler, and he knows that sometimes it can be difficult for a cat to travel. He always makes sure to get his affairs in order before embarking on a new trip. He is very thorough.
.@davos Hello, what kind of visa do I need to visit your country? I am a cat. http://t.co/oCc5K0VyCk

Dave also knows that it can be cheaper to bring his own food while traveling, instead of dining out for every meal. He also has heard that Switzerland can be very expensive, and there are no Safeways in Switzerland either. So Dave has been trying to get some food to pack in his suitcase.
Hello @Wendys, I never heard back from you but I would like some cheeseburgers. I am going on a road trip and I might get hungry.

Dave isn't sure when his trip will begin, but his travel box has been out of the closet for quite a while now, so it can't be long.

Ever Alert
As you can see in the photograph below, Dave has been keen to avoid being surprised lately. Fortunately for Dave, he hasn't faced any true threats, but that doesn't mean he is complacent. He knows he must keep vigilant, but he can't keep his eyes looking in all directions. Dave's most vulnerable direction is to his rear, something that he resolves by sitting immediately in front of a barrier most of the time. (That is why you rarely see Dave napping in the middle of a room. Never sit with your back to the door, Dave says.) After his rear, his most vulnerable direction is directly above him. But after being surprised too many times from this direction, Dave knows to be wary of threats from above.

Like Clockwork
Dave is a creature of habit. There are certain things he does every day. For example, whenever food is being prepared in Dave's home, he visits the kitchen. If you start making some macaroni and cheese, or lasagna, or tomato soup, or what have you, Dave will come visit you. Sometimes he will make noises at you. Sometimes he will just stare at you. He doesn't ever get food out of these visits, but Dave loves food so much that he wants to be around it even when it's not for him. Plus, there's always a chance that this could be the time that he gets to eat it.
Of course, as we well know, Dave has no compunction about jumping onto the kitchen counter when the opportunity arises. He knows he's not supposed to be up there, though, so he doesn't do it when others are there to see him.

Life as a star
Dave cares a lot about the impact he can have on other cats. That's why he is so heavily involved in this pursuit of greater napping strategies. Obviously, he likes having these strategies personally, but his real fulfillment comes from sharing his strategies with other cats around the world. But his efforts don't come without some sacrifices. One of those sacrifices is having to occasionally put up with a flashing light in his face. It is not always pleasant for Dave, but Dave is known for his patience. It is his patience that allows him to persevere in these times.

Stealth
An excellent term to describe Dave is "stealth." Along with Dave's well-known patience, his stealth is among the most important qualities that make him such a great detective. Jack is naturally quieter than Dave, but when Dave puts his detective hat on, he is so quiet you could hear a pin drop. This is sometimes necessary in Dave's investigations, because it is important not to disrupt whatever he is investigating. Much like a good scientist tries to make as little impact as possible on whatever she is observing, Dave also tries not to impact whatever he is investigating. He wouldn't want to make any false conclusions.

Leonardo Dave Inci
Dave considers napping an art form. He dedicates at least a few hours each day to creative napping. That's the kind of perseverance it takes to achieve the level of greatness that Dave has achieved. As you can see below, Dave was struck by true inspiration today, so his efforts paid off. This looks like a very comfortable napping style. But just because Dave looks comfortable now doesn't mean it was easy. Great artists like Leonardo Dave Inci make the impossible look easy.

CSI: Dave, Volume VIII
Dave really loves food. Any time, any place, any kind of food. That's why so many of his investigations revolve around locating more food. Fortunately for Dave, there are many occasions when food is eaten in his home. Unfortunately for Dave, the majority of those occurrences don't allow Dave to partake in the eating. This is quite upsetting for Dave at times, but that doesn't mean he has stopped his efforts to eat more food. Take the example below, where Dave is investigating the aftermath of one of the meals that Dave was unable to enjoy. He is smartly trying to claim any leftovers that had not yet been eaten.
His hopes were dashed, but Dave will persevere. There can be no doubt about that.

Patience
Patience is one of Dave's greatest virtues. This has been discussed in the past. You would be mistaken, however, to confuse patience with laziness or a lack of ambition. Sometimes, Dave can't think of any good way to nap, although these times are certainly rare. Even the best artists have off days, when they might try for hours but still be unable to think of anything creative. This might even go on for days! In Dave's case, you could call this 'napper's block.' On days like this, Dave spends much more time than usual looking out the window, as pictured below. Dave has pursuits other than napping, after all, and he is content to pursue those when he has napper's block. Hoping all the time, of course, that inspiration will strike, and he'll find a new and glorious way to nap. And when inspiration does strike? Dave is always ready for it.
